Today I turn 65.
Because I am a children’s librarian and I produce a podcast for babies and toddlers I was thinking about what children’s book is the the theme, the soundtrack, the mantra for my life over the past year
And I found one!
It is is A Good Day by *Kevin Henkes
It’s really aimed at 2-4 year olds
But it has a lot to teach this 65-year-old about how a bad day can become a good day
I had a lot of those days this year
I am Jamaican and this year I lost my home and most of my old books, hundreds of them, and photographs in Hurricane Beryl.
But this was also a year of luck and hope and joy for me.
Luck because all I lost was a house, and it can be rebuilt.
Hope because my 42-year-old son, who is on the spectrum, learned to drive this year.
I never dreamed I would see that.
And it was a year of joy - joy in my friends, children, grandchildren, my work.
And in my own beautiful self.
Warmly,
Miss Pam
